User guide

The band saw comes in quite handy when cutting freehand shapes into a piece of wood. The machine contains a continuous band with cutting teeth that continually spins around. This means the saw is not reciprocal, but rather always cuts downwards.

When wanting to make a cut, first assess your workpiece. Make sure that it has a large flat face it can rest on during cutting. If it does not have a proper surface, consider using another (hand) tool, seeing as the machine cannot be safely used without a proper resting surface. For example, when cutting a cylindrical surface, there is only a minute surface for the workpiece to rest on during cutting. This results in very low stability. Seeing as the blade only cuts downwards, it can catch on the cutting side, leading the cylinder to rotate into the blade, pulling your hand inward. As a general rule, make sure you never cut any material on an overhang. That means that the first thing the blade touches should always be resting directly on the cutting table. This way there is no torque on the workpiece that may cause it to slip or rotate.

Once you have verified that your workpiece is suitable for the bandsaw, go ahead and put on ear and eye protection. Assess if you have any loose clothing, wristbands, necklaces, etc. And Tie your hair back.

Once these steps are completed, turn on the saw and carefully make the cut you want to make. Take care to always maintain a firm grip with 2 hands, keeping safe margin from the blade. Firm pressure downwards into the table helps a lot in maintaining stability. If your required cut path requires you to come to close to the blade, consider using one of the plastic push sticks that are included on the side of the machine. These are only an option if you can still maintain a firm grip when using them!
